As one of the music industries' newest sensations, Bruno Mars is lighting up fans and critics alike. His music can only be described as eclectic - a mix of pop and doo-wop, with undertones of reggae and rock. Unique musical combinations, to say the least. Born and raised in Hawaii in a talented, musically-diverse family, Mars was never formally trained. "I've always had a drum set, a piano, a guitar... and never got trained to play. It was just always there," he recalls. "That's just how I learned, just being surrounded by it my whole life." From the age of four, Mars played in the family band, The Love Notes, performing a Las Vegas-style revue, everything from Motown sounds to rock covers. He began to impersonate Elvis and became the youngest to do so, which ultimately influenced is song-writing and stage performance. After graduating high school he moved to Los Angeles to kick off his music career, with the dream of becoming a singer. But after selling a song he wrote in order to pay the bills, he changed course. He began writing songs for other artists, most notably Flo Rida's "Right 'Round, K'Naan's "Wavin' Flag", and "Nothin' On You" for B.o.B. for which he also provided vocals...and began to find solo success. His first solo break-out song was "Just The Way You Are" that jumped to #1 on the charts and solidified him as a singer.
"Just The Way You Are" was the lead single released from his first album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, in 2010 that peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200. His sophomore album, Unorthodox Jukebox, went to #1 and spawned the mega-hits, "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man". Mars has sold 8 million albums worldwide, with over 100 million digital singles sales, making him the best-selling digital artist in 2011. He has already had five #1 singles on the Billboard 100. He has been nominated for 13 Grammys, winning one in 2011 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Just The Way You Are" and has performed live at the Grammys in 2012 and 2013.
Bruno Mars' star is rising...fast! His musical style appeals to fans spanning multiple genres. His high-energy, artistic performances play to his good looks, optimistic lyrics, and broad instrumental talent. Stay up to date on Bruno's recordings and tours with American Tickets.
