Country music superstar, Garth Brooks, has been breaking music records and exciting music lovers since he broke into the industry in 1989. His poetic and emotionally-laced lyrics resonate with fans of both country and pop, and both his ballads and rock-infused songs seamlessly cross genre lines, propelling him to the tops of charts time and time again.
Born (1962) and raised in Oklahoma, he learned the guitar and banjo at an early age. Ater graduating from Oklahoma State University on a track and field scholarship in 1984, he began his music career, playing clubs and bars in Oklahoma until he and first wife, Sandy Mahl, moved to Nashville in 1987. Originally interested in 70s-era rock, Brooks started playing more country after hearing George Strait's debut single, Unwound, in 1981. Quickly finding success in Nashville, his first album, Garth Brooks, debuted in 1989 and peaked at number two on the country album chart, with a decidedly traditional country sound. His second album, No Fences, released in 1990 and spent a whopping 23 weeks at number one on the Billboard country music chart, and successfully crossed-over at number three on the pop chart, thanks to the incorporation of more rock strains into the songs.
Since then, Garth Brooks has been named the best-selling album artist in the U.S. since 1991, surpassing both the Beatles and Elvis Presley. To date, he has sold over 69.5 million records, has recorded or released 19 albums, has 19 number one singles, and seven number one studio albums. He has won two Grammys, 17 American Music Awards, including being named "Artist of the 90s", countless other music awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Brooks officially retired from performing and recording in 2001 (although he recorded a handful of singles and performed at a few benefits). He was divorced in 2001 and married long-time friend and fellow country music star, Trisha Yearwood in 2005. Brooks signed a five-year concert deal with Encore Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip in 2009.
In July of 2014, Brooks announced a new album, a world tour, and that his music will become available in digital format, being one of the few artists who has resisted the digital industry. Well-known for his arena rock-style performances, Garth Brooks is one artist who should be on every concert-lover's bucket list. The showmanship and theatrics at his concerts are thrilling for every fan! Get your tickets to see Garth Brooks' world tour from American Tickets...they will go fast!
